I’ve signed up to the swapbot 2008 Reading log #3. The aim is to Log & review all of the books we read in July/August/September and then send the completed log to 2 swap partners. I record my books as I read them on my blog anyway so should be easy to keep track. However although I currently read a lot I’m a bit worried this will slip when the new baby is born in August therefore I shall include Junes books as well so my partners are guaranteed a few books to read about! Here are a few details so I can keep a record!
On the Edge: My Story – Richard Hammond
This is a book by Richard Hammond, a British ‘dare-devil’ television presenter who was involved in a near-death crash whilst driving a jet powered dragster at speeds of over 300 miles an hour. The book recounts events leading up to the accident, the anxious days he spent in a coma (told v.emotionally by his wife Mindy), the slow recovery and finally his return home and triumphant reappearance on TV. I was absolutely glued to this book, its very emotional and so inspiring to read how one man and his family can come through so much. I definitely recommend it even if you’ve never heard of him it’s still a very good read!
If Only – Gerri Halliwell
This is about the life of Gerri Halliwell, former Spice Girl (or current Spice Girl as I believe they are back together??) from her childhood, growing up in Watford England, covering her struggle for fame and then the rise of the Spice Girls, ending with the launch of her solo career. I wasn’t really a fan of the Spice Girls or Gerri Halliwell, although I did enjoy this book and found it very interesting to see how much effort she put in to get where she did today and reading it did actually make me think more of her! Apparently she has a second book out now with what has happened since this book? I shall probably end up reading it but I am very sceptical about that one!
